1 ) What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is a universally scalable fitness program that delivers results. It is the preferred strength and conditioning program for many first responders (police and firefighters), special ops units (military), professional sports teams, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.

Because it’s scalable, CrossFit offers results for everyone at any fitness level, from grandparent to elite athlete. The fitness needs of individuals differ by degree not kind. So load is scaled for each individual for the best fitness results from the same regimen.

2 ) What’s a WOD?

We use the acronym WOD when talking about the Workout of the Day.

3 ) Can’t I Do The Same Workouts at a Gym or at Home?

You CAN do the WODs at a gym or at your house, but you’ll be missing out on the two most important aspects of CrossFit Brunswick: Coaching & Community.

Coaching: The training and coaching that is offered at CFB is CrossFit Certified. With accreditation from the American National Standards Institute, CrossFit’s Level 1 certification is currently the only internationally accredited personal training certification. Our trainers take pride in continual study of exercise and nutrition and offer the most knowledgeable training around.

Community: Our workouts are built around the group setting which provides an atmosphere that fosters camaraderie and community. CrossFitters cheer one another on while pushing each other to push past personal records. Teamwork and healthy, friendly, competition are encouraged!

4 ) Why is CrossFit Brunswick More Expensive Than Other Gyms?

  1. It’s not an ordinary, traditional gym.
  2. The monthly membership fees aren’t “club dues.” At CFB you are not paying to borrow the equipment, you are making an investment into your own health & fitness with unlimited access to community, AND coaching each month. You are paying for a personal trainer, a nutrition plan that can be specifically tailored to your needs and an amazing community that will help you achieve your goals.
  3. In any open society, there are “products” that are premium and those that aren’t. The “product” (results, community, coaching) provided by CFB is premium and we’re proud of it.
  4. Most gyms don’t offer such a broad, general, and inclusive fitness program. Our specialty, by design, is not specializing. If you specialize (in fitness), your results will be diminished across a variety of activities. For example, if you go to a regular gym and workout on the elliptical machine for an hour a day, you’ll excel in exercising on the elliptical, but you’ll probably not excel in other areas. CrossFitters excel across a broad range of athletics, survival, combat, martial arts, etc. If you CrossFit you’ll be better at everything.

5 ) What If I Can’t Do The WOD Exercises or Movements?

Because CrossFit is scalable, you’ll never find yourself not being able to participate. Whether it’s by modification, substitution, or scaling weights you’ll always get an intense WOD and in the process build a stronger body and a stronger mind.

6 ) I Want to LOOK Good, Will CrossFit Brunswick Work For Me?

At CFB we train for function. That means, that appearance isn’t our first concern. Most traditional gyms offer an atmosphere that puts appearance on a pedestal. That’s why traditional training is usually built around “isolation” types of workout regimens. By isolating individual muscles, and working those out, you might get bigger muscles, but when the dust settles, you’re not training for function. That means, that while you might be buff, you’ll only be good at doing curls.

At CFB we KNOW that when you train for function, appearance will follow. So when the dust settles, you’ll be stronger, leaner, tougher and be able to tackle pretty much any activity that crosses your path. CrossFitters who train for function end up with better appearance than those who value appearance over function.

7 ) What is “On-Ramp”?

At CrossFit Brunswick, we value total fitness and push all of our members to be in a continual state of competition with themselves to be the best athlete they can be. In order to do that, our staff will work with new members for six sessions to ensure that each new member learns and maintains proper form and becomes familiar and comfortable with the style of workout at a CrossFit Gym. Proper form means higher 1 Rep Maxes and ensures safety in lifting over the long haul.

“I’ve worked out my whole life, do I really need to do the On-Ramp course?” YES! CrossFit is a different, demanding, complete and total body workout that requires discipline and commitment. In order for our community of CrossFitters to be completely successful, we need to make sure that all of our members are up to snuff.
